AXERRA NETWORKS REVOLUTIONIZES MOBILE BACKHAUL WITH NEW TOWER DEVICE

– AXN20 platform eases the transition to LTE

 

 

 

Barcelona , Spain– February 16th, 2010 – Axerra Networks, a leading provider of mobile backhaul network convergence solutions, today announced its new AXN20™ network access and mobile backhaul services delivery platform. The AXN20 is a compact, one rack unit (1RU), hardened, modular platform that supports multi-generation mobile technology backhaul over a converged Ethernet, IP, or MPLS packet network. The AXN20 is the only solution on the market that successfully combines support for legacy transport such as TDM and ATM with standards based Ethernet services and Ethernet demarcation capabilities in a single device.

The need for the AXN20 stems from the proliferation of smartphones, netbooks and other mobile networking devices that are increasingly used for video streaming, internet access and other bandwidth hungry applications. These devices are putting a strain on legacy mobile backhaul network architectures and are rapidly pushing operators to move to an all packet based infrastructure.

 

The AXN20 was specifically designed to be used as either a mobile backhaul services delivery platform by MSOs and packet services carriers or as an Ethernet network access platform by mobile network operators. For carrier customers that also serve commercial businesses, the AXN20 is an ideal multi-tenant unit (MTU) platform for delivering both Pseudowire based legacy T1\E1 transport services and Ethernet based packet services.

The AXN20 builds on Axerra’s highly-regarded and field proven multiservice Pseudowire and mobile network clock synchronization technologies by adding an extensive set of state-of-the-art Ethernet services delivery and network demarcation capabilities. Pseudowire based TDM, ATM and HDLC legacy services support is combined with Metropolitan Ethernet Forum services (MEF-9), traffic management (MEF-14) , Ethernet operations, administration and maintenance OA&M (IEEE 802.1ag, IEEE 802.3ah, ITU-T Y.1731), performance monitoring (ITU-T Y.1731) and a comprehensive set of Quality of Service (QOS) and diagnostics features. Multiple network synchronization mechanisms are supported including Axerra’s High Precision Clock Recovery (HPCR®), IEEE 1588-2008 and synchronous Ethernet. By supporting a rich set of industry standards, the AXN20 can be deployed as a tower located device with end-to-end network interoperability with 3rd party vendor central office Pseudowire gateways, carrier Ethernet core switches, and other packet networking devices. 

 

By collapsing a Pseudowire access device, an Ethernet services switch and an Ethernet demarcation device into a single platform, the AXN20 eliminates the requirement for deploying multiple separate tower devices typically found in today’s networks. The AXN20 modular line card slots can accommodate a variety of Ethernet or TDM interfaces to support most any tower site capacity requirement and backhaul network topology. The easily expandable “pay-as-you-grow” platform approach simplifies operations support, reduces cost, saves space, reduces energy requirements and improves backhaul network reliability. 

 

The AXN20, scheduled for customer deployment in the second quarter of 2010, is the most recent addition to Axerra’s award-winning AXN family of scalable Pseudowire Gateway and Access Devices.
