ARRIS AND AXERRA NETWORKS ENABLE CABLE OPERATORS
TO ADDRESS THE LUCRATIVE CORPORATE MARKET
WITH ADVANCED COMMERCIAL SERVICES SOLUTION

-- Full-featured, Working Solution on Display at the NCTA National Show,
April 3 - 5 in San Francisco --

Suwanee, GA and Boca Raton, FL April 3, 2005 -- ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS), the leading provider of broadband access, delivery, and management solutions, and Axerra Networks, “The Pseudo-Wire Company™,” and the leader in providing circuit emulation and service emulation solutions over packet access networks, today announced a working solution that gives cable operators and multiservice operators (MSOs) the abilility to serve the lucrative corporate market for voice and data services over hybrid fiber/coax (HFC). The solution enables full-featured, carrier-grade voice and data services to be offered from cable operators’ existing HFC infrastructures. In addition, the solution enables MSOs to penetrate the lucrative wireless backhaul market by providing an alternative to T1 leased lines in the Radio Access Network.

The solution combines the capabilities of Axerra's family of AXN Pseudo-Wire Gateways and Access Devices™ with the DOCSIS and EuroDOCSIS capabilities provided by ARRIS’ Cadant family of Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTSs). The combined solution enables cable operators to deliver the revenue-generating services for which corporations have traditionally paid telecom carriers, including T1 and E1 leased lines, full-featured voice connections to the public-switched telephone network, Frame Relay, a range of Layer 2 VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) including Transparent LAN services (TLS), and even cell-site backhaul service for mobile/wireless operators.

The ability to combine ARRIS’ product line with Axerra’s expertise in circuit emulation and service emulation means that cable providers can expand beyond the traditional residential market and meet the growing demands for new and advanced services for commercial customers.

"Combining ARRIS’ solution with Axerra’s pseudo-wire technology empowers cable operators to compete with telecom carriers by enabling them to offer a full portfolio of voice and data services to business customers," said Stephen R. Jolley, VP Marketing & Business Development for ARRIS TeleWire.

“Cable operators can now offer full-featured TDM voice services, legacy data services, such as Frame Relay, and exciting new Ethernet VPN services. With ARRIS’ advanced DOCSIS technology and the power of our pseudo-wire solution, all of these services can be provided from operators’ existing cable networks without costly infrastructure changes," states Gil Biran, founder, president, and CEO of Axerra Networks.

Axerra Networks’ family of AXN Pseudo-Wire Gateways and Access Devices™ furnish full-service capabilities over the HFC and fiber infrastructure of cable networks, including leased line T1 PCM Voice, T1 Private Line Data, native Frame Relay, ATM, HDLC, integrated voice and data T1 service, and virtual private Ethernet and IP services. The AXN family is a scalable solution that addresses SMB locations and cell sites, MTU and Hubs, and the carrier-class CO environment.

ARRIS continues to lead the market in certified and qualified solutions for cable operators worldwide with both a chassis and a compact CMTS that are fully DOCSIS® certified. The Cadant® C4™ CMTS is a carrier-grade edge router/CMTS that delivers the industry’s highest levels of performance in terms of capacity, density, throughput, and availability. In addition, the ARRIS Cadant C3™ CMTS is a compact, low-cost CMTS that enables operators to easily add commercial services in markets where residential data solutions already exist.

Extensive testing by the two companies in live cable operator networks has validated the performance and integrity of the overall solution. Axerra Networks’ pseudo-wire solution demonstrated its ability to control latency, jitter, and packet loss, yielding extremely low bit-error rates and meeting the requirements for reliable service delivery. The low latency and high-precision clock recovery features of Axerra’s pseudo-wire solution support the most demanding applications of the T1 Commercial Services and Mobile Wireless Backhaul markets.

ARRIS and Axerra are demonstrating the combined commercial services solution in the ARRIS booth (#5452) at the NCTA National Show in San Francisco, Calif, April 3-5, 2005.
