AXERRA NETWORKS ANNOUNCES
FULL-SERVICE PSEUDO-WIRE SOLUTION
FOR MOBILE WIRELESS PROVIDERS

--
Provides a Full-Service Backhaul Alternative to TDM
in the Mobile Radio Access Network --

Boca Raton, FL – June 7, 2005 – Axerra Networks, “The Pseudo-Wire Company™,” and the leading provider of circuit emulation and service emulation solutions, today announced availability of a full-service backhaul alternative to TDM access for mobile wireless providers. The Axerra Pseudo-Wire solution enables backhaul for all generations of both voice and data traffic over a single packet-based radio access network (RAN).

The Axerra Pseudo-Wire solution empowers providers to utilize the capacity and flexibility of packet access networks, including Carrier Ethernet, cable HFC, and broadband wireless (WiMAX) in the mobile wireless RAN. The solution combines ATM, circuit emulation, Frame Relay/HDLC/PPP, and Ethernet Pseudo-Wires in a single platform to enable backhaul of any combination of 2G, 2.5G, and 3G traffic, including CDMA 2000 plus 1RTT plus 1xEV-DO and GSM plus GPRS plus UMTS, all over a single packet RAN.

New to the solution is the industry’s only combination of ATM Pseudo-Wires, Circuit Emulation Pseudo-Wires, and Ethernet Pseudo-Wires in a single access device optimally sized for BTS and NodeB cell sites and in a single gateway optimally sized for BSC and RNC sites. This combination enables all generations of mobile voice and data and also provides consolidated and groomed interfaces for connections to equipment already installed at the BTS, NodeB, and RNC/BSC. For example, Axerra’s AXN Pseudo-Wire Access Devices™ furnish T1/E1 ports for connections to the BTS/NodeB with both Circuit Emulation and ATM Pseudo-Wires, as well as Ethernet ports and Ethernet Pseudo-Wire service. In addition, Axerra’s high-density, fault-tolerant AXN Pseudo-Wire Gateways™ furnish high-speed Ethernet and STM-1 ATM interfaces to connect aggregated data traffic to the RNC, as well as channelized T1/E1, DS3, and STM-1/OC-3 interfaces for handing off voice traffic to the BSC/MSC. New features in Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solution that optimize utilization of the radio access network also include “virtual concatenation” for circuit, frame, and ATM traffic, as well as dynamic bandwidth sharing options.

Critical to mobile wireless solutions is Axerra’s unique ability to meet the stringent synchronization requirements for the BTS/NodeB. Axerra’s state-of-the-art high-precision clock recovery (HPCR) mechanism has already been deployed and tested by major operators around the globe.

“The need for Pseudo-Wire solutions in the radio access network has become apparent worldwide as providers roll out bandwidth-hungry 3G services,” says Gil Biran, founder, president, and CEO of Axerra Networks. “We already have Pseudo-Wire deployments carrying live traffic on three continents. The enhancements and new features currently being tested by major mobile carriers and vendors are the direct result of our field experiences with our customers. Axerra is delivering a total solution using Pseudo-Wires in a very demanding application.”

The new features are part of the standard feature set on Axerra’s family of AXN Pseudo-Wire Gateways and Access Devices™. Axerra offers a range of Pseudo-Wire platforms optimally sized for CPE, mobile cell sites, MTU applications, and most importantly, for central office and headend applications. Axerra is the only vendor that can deliver today both small, low-cost access solutions and redundant, high-density, carrier-class solutions.

Axerra Pseudo-Wire solutions are on display at SUPERCOMM 2005, June 7-9th in Chicago at the Axerra Networks booth (#25035), in the 10 Hottest Technologies Pavilion, and in the Metro Ethernet SuperDemo.

About Axerra Networks, Inc.

Axerra Networks is the leading provider of circuit emulation and service emulation solutions over packet access networks. Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solutions enable incumbent carriers, competitive service providers, mobile wireless operators, and cable MSOs to extend IP + legacy voice and data services in native format over Ethernet, IP, and MPLS networks. The result is greater operational efficiency, new revenue opportunities, and a smooth migration strategy to a single converged network, without stranding any revenue streams from profitable legacy services. With Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solutions, service providers can convert any packet access network (Carrier Ethernet, broadband wireless including WiMAX, cable HFC, etc.) into a full-service alternative to TDM access.
