AXERRA NETWORKS ANNOUNCES FULL-SERVICE BACKHAUL SOLUTION FOR WIRELESS

-- Pseudo-Wires Enable a Full-Service Solution to Meet Growing Traffic Requirements, including CDMA and EV-DO, as well as GSM and UMTS --

Boca Raton, FL – April 3, 2006 – Axerra Networks, “The Pseudo-Wire Company®” and the leading provider of circuit emulation and service emulation solutions, today announced the availability of a full-service alternative to TDM access for mobile wireless operators, including those providing CDMA and EV-DO as well as GSM and UMTS services. The Axerra AXN Pseudo-Wire solution meets wireless operators’ growing traffic requirements for backhaul of both voice and data services in packet-based radio access networks (RANs). The Axerra solution empowers Ethernet service providers, cable MSOs, and incumbent LECs to utilize the capacity and flexibility of low-cost packet access networks as a full-service backhaul alternative to TDM access for both voice and data wireless services. Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solution will be on display at CTIA Wireless 2006, April 5-7, Las Vegas, in the Axerra booth (#152).

By enabling a new era of RAN backhaul that supports the transport of voice and high-speed data over packet-access networks, the AXN Pseudo-Wire solution simultaneously slashes operators’ recurring costs while catalyzing the deployment of Carrier Ethernet, GPON/EPON, xDSL, HFC, and WiMAX in the RAN. The solution combines circuit emulation, Frame Relay/HDLC/PPP, and Ethernet Pseudo-Wires in a single platform that has both n x T1 and Ethernet connections at the BTS to enable backhaul of every generation of wireless service, including CDMA plus 1RTT plus 1xEV-DO, and even CDMA 2000 or 4G, all over a single packet RAN. The solution also uniquely incorporates ATM with IMA, enabling GSM plus GPRS plus UMTS. The resulting unified, high-capacity RAN reduces OpEx while enhancing the user experience for high-speed data services.

Axerra AXN Pseudo-Wire solution has garnered the industry’s largest deployments of Pseudo-Wires in wireless backhaul applications. AXN Pseudo-Wire Gateways and Access Devices™ are currently installed and carrying revenue-generating traffic for top-tier operators on four continents. Axerra’s display at CTIA will showcase the key advantages of Axerra’s full-service solution:

• The AXN solution supports end-to-end latency of less than 8ms, enabling operators to satisfy the most stringent differential delay requirements, including backhaul of CDMA services.

• The AXN solution scales from the BTS/NodeB (with a small low-cost solution for cell sites) to the BSC/RNC and MSC (with carrier-class solutions for switching centers). Axerra is the only vendor that can deliver today both small, low-cost solutions for cell sites as well as high-density solutions with high-speed channelized interfaces for switching centers.

• The AXN is the only solution combining circuit emulation and service emulation (TDM plus HDLC, Frame Relay, Ethernet, and/or ATM). Service emulation provides the advantages of statistical multiplexing – making all the bandwidth available in real time for high-speed data services (e.g., EV-DO). This increase in bandwidth utilization improves the user experience and furnishes competitive advantage for the wireless operator.

• AXN Pseudo-Wire Access Devices and Gateways integrate easily with the equipment already installed in the BTS, the NodeB, and the BSC/RNC/MSC. In addition, the AXN solution is certified and supported by most of the top-tier mobile incumbent vendors.

“ The need for Pseudo-Wire solutions in the radio access network is being accelerated by bandwidth-hungry data services like EV-DO,” said Gil Biran, founder and COO of Axerra Networks. “In addition, we are seeing an emerging trend to use cell sites as virtual PoPs that supports cellular backhaul and also enterprise service delivery from a single set of equipment. The time is right for Pseudo-Wires and it is clear that Axerra is leading the charge.”

The ability to support all generations of voice and data mobile wireless services over a single packet-based RAN ensures a smooth transition from one generation to the next, allowing operators to dynamically share RAN capacity among multiple services. Capacity is not stranded as customers migrate away from a legacy service, as it is with point-to-point lines that are dedicated to a specific service.

About Axerra Networks, Inc.

Axerra Networks is the leading provider of circuit emulation and service emulation solutions over packet access networks. Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solutions enable mobile wireless operators, cable MSOs, competitive service providers, and incumbent carriers to extend IP + legacy voice and data services in native format over Ethernet, IP, and MPLS networks. The result is greater operational efficiency, new revenue opportunities, and a smooth migration strategy to a single converged network, without stranding any revenue streams from profitable legacy services. With Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solutions, service providers can convert any packet access network (Carrier Ethernet, broadband wireless including WiMAX, cable HFC, xDSL, PON, etc.) into a full-service alternative to TDM access.
