Boston, MA – May 30, 2006 – Axerra Networks, “The Pseudo-Wire Company®” and the leading provider of circuit emulation and service emulation solutions, today announced the availability of the AXN10-8 Pseudo-Wire Access Device™. The AXN10-8 is the newest addition to Axerra’s award-winning family of Pseudo-Wire solutions. It meets mobile wireless operators’ growing traffic requirements for backhaul of both voice and data services in packet-based radio access networks (RANs). It also enables cable MSOs and metro Ethernet service providers to cost-effectively deliver traditional T1/E1 voice and data services for business customers. The AXN10-8, generally available in Q3 of this year, becomes an integral part of the Axerra Pseudo-Wire solution for mobile wireless backhaul. The total solution empowers providers to utilize the capacity and flexibility of packet access networks, including Carrier Ethernet, cable HFC, xDSL, PON, and broadband wireless in the RAN. The solution enables backhaul for all generations of both voice and data traffic over a single packet-based RAN. Axerra is the only vendor that can deliver today both small, low-cost access solutions and redundant, high-density, carrier-class solutions for backhaul over packet networks. The AXN10-8 combines ATM with IMA, circuit emulation, Frame Relay/HDLC/PPP, and Ethernet Pseudo-Wires in a single access device to enable backhaul of any combination of 2G, 2.5G, and 3G traffic, including CDMA 2000 plus 1RTT plus 1xEV-DO and GSM plus GPRS plus UMTS. The AXN10-8 is optimally sized, furnishing up to eight T1/E1 interfaces for connections to equipment already installed at the BTS and NodeB cell site, each soft-configurable for the type of Pseudo-Wire service required. It also furnishes Ethernet Pseudo-Wire services and four Ethernet ports for connections to new generations of cell-site equipment, aggregating the full range of existing and projected services for backhaul over a unified, packet-optimized RAN. The AXN10-8 includes new functionality for grooming and consolidation of CDMA, GSM, and UMTS traffic that reduces latency while also optimizing bandwidth utilization in the RAN. In addition, the AXN10-8 is equipped with new OAM features that provide enhanced network visibility and reliability for cell-site backhaul. Finally, the AXN10-8 furthers Axerra’s leadership role in meeting the stringent clocking requirements of both 2G and 3G network implementations. Axerra’s state-of-the-art high-precision clock recovery (HPCR™) mechanism has already been tested and is being deployed by major operators around the globe. “The need for Pseudo-Wire solutions in the radio access network has become apparent worldwide as providers roll out bandwidth-hungry 3G services,” says Gil Biran, Founder and COO of Axerra Networks. “The AXN10-8 is optimally sized for the growth of traffic and range of services at today’s cell sites. The traffic growth is evident, based on our experience with live deployments on three continents, and the AXN10-8 will further increase service providers’ OpEx savings.” Recently, Axerra’s solutions were named as “commended” finalists in the GSM Association 2006 Awards for “best radio access product or service.” In addition, Axerra Networks was named as a recipient of the prestigious 2006 Red Herring 100 Europe award, which recognizes the 100 top private companies playing a leading role in innovation and technology. Responding to growing worldwide demand for its Pseudo-Wire solutions, Axerra has expanded operations throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, opening new offices in the U.S., Korea, Singapore, India, and Russia. The new AXN10-8 and Axerra’s complete range of Pseudo-Wire solutions are on display at GLOBALCOMM 2006, June 5-7th in Chicago at the Axerra Networks booth (#27023).
Axerra Networks is the leading provider of circuit emulation and service emulation solutions over packet access networks. Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solutions enable mobile wireless operators, cable MSOs, competitive service providers, and incumbent carriers to extend IP + legacy voice and data services in native format over Ethernet, IP, and MPLS networks. The result is greater operational efficiency, new revenue opportunities, and a smooth migration strategy to a single converged network without stranding any revenue streams from profitable legacy services. With Axerra’s Pseudo-Wire solutions, service providers can convert any packet access network (Carrier Ethernet, broadband wireless including WiMAX, xDSL, cable HFC, PON, etc.) into a full-service alternative to TDM access.
